![]() ![]() The precision and timing required to hit an enemy with the swing of a sword or a loosed arrow are difficult skills to learn, but practice brings rewards and within a few hours of play the well balanced combat becomes great fun. ![]() Based on momentum and physics, the action of shooting arrows, swinging swords or firing muskets all feel satisfying and solid. While on foot combat features in both singleplayer and multiplayer, its the horseback combat that stands out. We covered the combat extensively in our preview, but to say it is unique is an understatement. Its staggering to see how an initially simple medieval combat game evolves as you play to become more like a horseback version of Sid Miers Pirates or even something as open ended as David Braben’s Elite. Later in the game it opens up completely and allows the player to lay siege to towns, manage armies and even choose factions to fight for or against and potentially overthrow monarchs. Early on you can set off and engage random brigands and looters, take on missions for town mayors or attack caravans laden with supplies. Once the rather unwelcoming opening portion of the game is done though it begins to become clear just how much freedom and opportunity is available in the game world. Being defeated doesn’t result in death, but rather sees you stripped of items and dragged around the map thus further reducing the chance of getting a foothold in the game world. Facing enemies so early in the game can be a brutal and humbling experience as you try and charge ten musket wielding enemies while firing your puny pistol. Starting without any soldiers or mercenaries in their party they will have to avoid enemy looters and make their way to the nearest city to recruit a team and gain missions. After a brief tutorial, the player will be left to travel and explore as they see fit and other than a few vague pieces of advice from an NPC, they will be very much left to their own devices. ![]() Early on a newcomer to the series will probably feel a little out of their depth. While the game may be based on a historical Polish novel of the same name, there’s little story or guidance once the singleplayer campaign begins. The game sees these weapons integrated into the more traditional swords, shields and axes of the earlier games and by setting the action in the 17th century and in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during the Khmelnytsky Uprising, the experience is as authentic as it is unique. Black powder and muskets are the order of the day. Now we’re not talking machine guns or rocket launchers here, this is some old fashioned military hardware. The solution was obvious but a complete success give everyone guns. With the last in entry in the series ( Warband) bringing long awaited multiplayer combat and incremental updates to the formula, developer Taleworlds had to come up with something new and special to make this new version stand out. Technologically scruffy, resulutely old-school and unapologetically hardcore, its the kind of game that has a small target market, but an utterly dedicated fan base. With its horse based combat, RPG levelling and open ended gameplay, the Mount and Blade series has carved a completely unique niche for itself.

The font had to be perfectly readable by machines and computers, but it also had to be readable by the human eye. Back in 1968 when the fonts were introduced, two important requirements had to be accomplished. Ladies & gentlemen, please welcome AnyOCR! The History of OCR FontsĮveryone who works in the field of Optical Character Recognition, specifically text recognition, is confronted with the traditional fonts OCR-A and OCR-B. And that’s exactly what we – together with the design team around the Multigenre Bureau “laut aber leise” – did. There was some heavy optimization needed to form the perfect team, made of OCR technology and this new OCR font. But that was before you’ve seen our new OCR font. Other than direct scanning of papers, you can also import image files and extract text from them. Some of you might ask yourself “Why design a new OCR font? The technology that exists is good enough to read non-OCR-optimized fonts as well!” You might also think that there have already been two OCR fonts for the past 50 years and the world is overloaded with fonts in general. It also supports multiple OCR engines including Tesseract OCR, GOCR, Ocropus and Cuneiform, as long as packages for these engines are installed on your system. It can directly work with scanners to scan papers and then export OCR detected text content into PDF files. Gscan2pdf is a free and open source graphical utility that can identify and extract text from a variety of file formats. The package included in the Ubuntu repository was much smaller in size. However, the flatpak build came with all four supported OCR engines though it downloaded around 2GB data. Note that in my testing, OCRFeeder installed from Ubuntu repositories came with only one OCR engine. A universal flatpak package is also available here. You can install it in other Linux distributions from default repositories through the package manager. To install Tesseract OCR in Ubuntu, use the command specified below: Tesseract OCR comes with multiple detection engines and you can use them according to your needs depending on the installation method. You can also use your own trained data if you need a custom solution or you can get more models from third parties. It comes with a set of pre-trained data that can be used to identify and extract text. It can detect text in many languages with good accuracy. It provides command line tools as well as an API that you can integrate in your own programs. Sponsored by Google, and maintained by many volunteers, it is probably the most comprehensive OCR suite available out there that can even beat some paid, proprietary solutions. Tesseract OCR is a free and open source OCR software available for Linux. This technique is specially used to digitize old documents into PDF format. Superimposed text allows you to read content in original print and format but also allows you to select and copy text. Most OCR software can extract text into separate files, though some also support superimposing a hidden text layer on original files. Manual edits can be made later to improve accuracy further and create one-to-one replicas. Sometimes the identified text may not be 100% accurate but OCR software removes the need for manual edits to a great extent by extracting as much text as possible. These OCR software are especially useful for converting and preserving old documents as they can be used to identify text and create digital copies. For instance, an OCR software can identify text from images, PDF or other scanned documents in digital file formats using various algorithms and AI based solutions. An optical character recognition (OCR) software attempts to detect text content of non-text files whose content cannot be selected or copied but can be viewed or read. This article will cover a list of useful “Optical Character Recognition” software available for Linux. |
